Guide to Responsible Play

Sometimes, players may find it hard to recognize that their online play is getting out of control. A common reaction is to minimize, hide or deny such problems and the harm it could be causing. Some people will lie to themselves about how much money or time is being spent on online playing.

Following are some of the best practices to help you play responsibly:
  • Play Rummy in moderation and only for entertainment.
  • Do not play Rummy to make money or escape problems.
  • Never chase your losses while playing Rummy.
  • Set aside an entertainment budget for Rummy.
  • Use the Add Cash limit option to help control the amount you spend. For further information, please visit our Add cash limits page.
  • Balance the time you spend on playing online Rummy with other leisure activities.

Points Rummy can be played between a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 players. A two player table is played with 2 decks and a maximum of 3 card decks are used to play in multiplayer tables. Players play for points which have a pre-decided rupee value. The maximum points one can lose at a table is 80 (the entire bet amount).

How the Game Works

  • A random toss decides which player gets the first move.
  • Each player is dealt 13 cards face down. The next card from the deck is placed face up on the table; this starts the discard pile/open deck. Rest of the cards are placed face down in the centre of the table; this is the stock pile/closed deck.
  • Then a card is picked from the stock pile and placed face up under the stock pile so that it is visible. All the cards of that rank regardless of the suit can be utilized as additional jokers or wild cards.
  • The objective of the Game. The object is to form Runs (or sequences) and Sets. And when a player has formed required runs and sets using all the 13 cards, the player declares his/her turn. A valid declare must have minimum two runs and out of these runs one run must be pure (called First Life). The second run can be pure or non-pure (called Second Life). Either First Life or Second Life must have 4 or more cards. Once the objective is met the player can thereafter declare by clicking on the “Declare” button.
  • Once a valid declare is made, rest of players on the table must form and declare the valid sets and sequences. For these players all the unmatched cards are counted. Every player must meet the requirements of minimum two runs (First Life and Second Life) else all the 13 cards are treated as unmatched and are counted. When all the 13 cards are unmatched, the player loses 80 points.
  • Dropping from the game. If you drop from the game without picking even a single card from the discard pile or stock pile, you lose 10 points. If you drop in between a hand, before any other player has done a valid declare, you lose 30 points.
  • After the points of all the players are calculated for all players, the winner takes home the prize money.
  • Some Rules to remember. A sequence/run can also use a joker (wild card) as substitute for any missing card. Such a sequence is non-pure sequence. You can use only one joker in a non-pure sequence.
  • A set consists of 3 or 4 cards of same rank but of different suits. or 2 (or 3) such cards and a joker.
  • After each loss point is calculated for all players, the winner takes home the prize money.
  • Three cards of same rank and same suit (except printed jokers) are treated as pure sequence/run.
  • All the unused jokers can be placed separately while declaring and hold 0 points.

In points rummy multiple factors are taken into consideration while calculating the score.

Winner’s Score Calculation

Once declared by meeting the required declaring criteria , the winning player is awarded with 0 point.

Point Calculation for the Losing Individuals

Each Card has a certain number of points. The loosing amount is the addition of the value held by the point cards not arranged in sets or sequences at the end of declaration. The maximum points one can lose at a table is 80.

  • Face cards of any suit - Ace , King, Queen , Jack - Carry a 10 Point value.
  • Number cards - Have the Face value / numerical Value of the card itself i.e. 2 of any suit carries 2 points. 10 of any suit carries 10 points. 5 of any suit carries 5 points and so on.
  • Joker / Wild card - carry 0 points.

Drop Show Calculation

Drop show is when a player makes a valid declaration on the first turn with or without picking up a deck card. In such a case, other players of the table who haven't had a turn yet are calculated at a 20 point value loss.

However, the players who have played a hand before the declarer are calculated as middle drop with 40 points value loss. However if a player does not declare they are calculated at a 80 points value loss.

Drop Score Calculation

  • First Drop - 10 Points: If the players drops the game in their first move, they are dropped with a 10 points value loss each and the game continues till a single winner emerges.
  • Second Drop - 30 points: If a player drops the game after playing his first move and before a valid declaration they will be dropped with a 30 points value loss and the game continues till a single winner emerges.
  • Consecutive Misses - 40 Points: If a player is disconnected and misses out on three consecutive turns, he/she is auto-dropped with a 40 point value loss.

Deal Show Calculation

  • If a player has played their hand then upon a deal show declaration, their remaining card value loss points will be calculated.
    • if remaining point value is 20 then 20 point value loss will be calculated from the player.
    • If a player doesn't have a valid declaration criteria then entire 80 point value loss will be calculated.
  • If a player has not played their hand then upon a deal show declaration half of the points value loss will be calculated.
    • If a player doesn't have a valid declaration criteria then instead of the entire 80 points, 40 points value loss will be calculated.
    • if remaining point value is 20 then 10 point value loss will be calculated from the player and so on.

Wrong Show Calculation

In case if a declaring player does not have two valid sequences – a pure sequence and a pure/impure sequence with a minimum of four cards, then he/she loses the entire 80 points and the game continues on till a valid declaration is made.

End score Calculation

The score of the losing players is the addition of the number of point value carried by the remaining cards, which were not placed in either a valid set or sequence.
If the player has an invalid arrangement which does not meet the required valid declaration criteria, all points of all cards are calculated.
However you can only lose a maximum of 80 points i.e. the entire bet amount.

There is only one winner at the end of a Points Rummy game. The winner gets the entire Prize Money.
The Prize Money = (Sum of loss Points from all opponents) x (Rupee/paisa value of the point value of the given table) - (RummyG Fees).

For example:
If a player wins a ₹1 point value table, where the loss players have lost 10, 50, 80 points.
The prize money becomes ₹1 x (10+50+80 point) = ₹140.
The amount is immediately credited into the player account minus the RummyG Fees.

You can only lose a maximum of 80 points i.e. the entire bet amount.

Pool Rummy is very much similar to Points Rummy apart from its process of elimination. A player is eliminated when their points reaches the maximum limit of the particular type of table – 101 Points Pool or 201 Points Pool.

  • 101 Pool : 101 Pool Rummy can be played between 2 - 5 players using 2 - 3 decks respectively.
  • 201 Pool : 201 Pool Rummy can be played between 2 - 5 players using 2 - 3 decks respectively.

  • A random toss decides which player gets to play the first move and a wild card is dealt and fixed as a joker card to be utilized.
  • In case a printed joker is selected as joker for a game, then players can use it in any suit as a joker in their sets and/or sequences.
  • First card of the remaining deck forms the open deck and the remaining cards form the closed deck.
  • Then thirteen cards are dealt to each player who then take turns to pick/discard a card from the closed/open deck.
  • You can use only one joker to put in your sets/ sequence. If the wild joker is of the same suit as the sequence, you can use the printed joker in the same sequence.
  • The 14th card remaining is then used to declare in the finishing slot.
  • The objective of the Game : The object is to form Runs (or sequences) and Sets. And when a player has formed required runs and sets using all the 13 card, the player declares his/her turn. A valid declare must have minimum two runs and out of these runs one run must be pure (called First Life). The second run can be pure or non pure (called Second Life). Either First Life or Second Life must have 4 or more cards. Once the objective is met the player can thereafter declare by clicking on the "Declare" button.
  • The joker card can be placed separately while declaring and holds 0 point loss.
  • Once a valid declare is made everyone on the table needs to declare and points are calculated as per the remaining cards which could not be placed in any valid order.
  • If a player has dropped his cards 10 points loss is calculated for first drop and 30 points loss for middle drop.
  • The Round of games continues until all the players are eliminated and one single player survives without accumulating a total sum of 101/201 Pool Points depending on the pool table value.
  • Caution : With two decks, you cannot use the same card twice in a set. For instance 8 ♠ 8 ♠ 8 is not a valid set.
  • Three identical Cards : When playing with three 52-card decks, the three cards of same rank and same suit are treated as pure sequence/run. For example: 9 9 9 and J♠ J♠ J♠.

The winner is the player who manages not to accumulate the pool point loss amount of 101/201 depending on the pool table value.

For Example: in 101 point rummy (2 player table)

Table bet amount: ₹5 (both players need to fix ₹5 in bet pot for entry)
Total Prize Money: ₹9 (₹1 is Play Rummy Fees out of ₹10 bet value)

Gameplay:

Deal Round Player 1 Player 2
Round 1 70 points 0 points
Round 2 0 points 80 points
Round 3 0 points 20 points
Round 4 40 points 0 points
Total 110 points 100 points

  • Player 1 has reached 110 points which is more than 101 points
  • Player 2 has only received 100 points which is below 101 points.
  • Therefore player 2 receives the winning bet amount of ₹9.

Similarly in multiplayer tables, the game continues till all the players are eliminated and one single player survives without accumulating a total sum of 101 Pool Points.

In 201 Pool Tables the players are eliminated when they cross 201 points. The player who makes it till the end without accumulating 201 points wins the game.

Each Card has a certain number of points.

  • Face cards of any suit - King, Queen , Jack - Carry a 10 Point value.
  • Ace cards of any suit - Carry a 10 Point value.
  • Number cards - Have the numerical Value of the card itself i.e. 2 of any suit carries 2 points. 10 of any suit carries 10 points. 5 of any suit carries 5 points and so on.
  • Joker / Wild card - carry 0 points.
  • If the losing player has two sequences along with a pure sequence, then the points of the cards that could not be arranged into any sequences/sets are calculated.
  • If the losing player does not have two sequences – a pure and pure/impure sequence with minimum four cards, then the points of all the cards are calculated to a total of 80 points value loss.
  • If a player declares the game without completing the objective of the game, then 80 points value loss is calculated.
  • If a player is disconnected and misses out on three consecutive turns, he/she is auto-dropped with a middle drop of 40 point value loss for 101 pool and 50 point value loss for 201 pool.
  • You can only lose a maximum of 80 points i.e. the entire bet amount.

First Drop : If a player doesn't play a turn (doesn’t pick a card) and drops off the game they are calculated with a 10 points value loss.
Second Drop : A player can drop anytime between the game before a valid declaration the player will be calculated with a 30 points value loss.
Consecutive Misses : If a player is disconnected and misses out on three consecutive turns, he/she is auto-dropped with a middle drop 40 point value loss.

Note:Incase a player declares during the consecutive misses, the player will be calculated with a 80 points value loss and be showed as an invalid/not declared.

Hand played before declaration: If a player has played their hand then upon a deal show declaration, their remaining card value loss points will be calculated.

  • if remaining point value is 20 then 20 point value loss will be calculated from the player.
  • If a player doesn't have a valid declaration criteria then entire 80 point value loss will be calculated.
Hand NOT played before declaration: If a player has not played their hand then upon a deal show declaration half of the points value loss will be calculated.
  • If a player doesn't have a valid declaration criteria then instead of the entire 80 points, 40 points value loss will be calculated.
  • if remaining point value is 20 then 10 point value loss will be calculated from the player and so on.

The split Option will work only between two players playing a 101 / 201 pool rummy game.
Auto Split Option : This is applicable on 101 and 201 pool tables.

101 Pool Tables: The Auto Split option will work when the players left at the tables each have a point count of 81 or higher. Using Auto Split, the prize money will be automatically split between the two players.

For example in a ₹10 prize table, Player 1 has 82 points and Player 2 reaches 81 points, the prize money of ₹9 will be equally split between the two players. (The Prize money is minus the Play Rummy Fees)

201 Pool Tables:The Auto Split option will work when the players left at the tables each have a point count of 176 or higher. Using Auto Split, the prize will be automatically split between the two players.

For example in a ₹10 prize table, Player 1 has 179 points and Player 2 reaches 192 points, the prize money of ₹9 will be equally split between the two players. (The Prize money is minus the Play Rummy Fees)

Yes! RummyG at Venmoon Solutions Private Limited is completely Legal.
In 1957 the Supreme Court stated that prize competitions which involve substantial skill are business activities that are protected under Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution of India.

The 1968 Supreme Court ruling declared rummy to be a game of skill stating:

"Rummy, on the other hand, requires certain amount of skill because the fall of the cards has to be memorised and the building up of Rummy requires considerable skill in holding and discarding cards. We cannot, therefore, say that the game of Rummy is a game of entire chance. It is mainly and preponderantly a game of skill."

Further, the Supreme Court in 1996 defined a game of mere skill as follows:

  • The competitions where success depends on substantial degree of skill are not "gambling" and
  • Despite there being an element of chance if a game is preponderantly a game of skill it would nevertheless be a game of "mere skill".

The Public Gambling Act, which is the central law on gambling and most subsequent state laws on the subject substantially stated that "nothing in this Act shall apply to games of mere skill wherever played".

To sum up the Above:
The various Supreme Court rulings and the Gaming Acts of India imply the following:
  • Playing games of skill for cash does not constitute gambling.
  • Games of skill are exempt from the penal provisions of most gambling acts.
  • Rummy is a game of skill.

So yes, it is perfectly legal to play rummy for cash on Venmoon Solutions Private Limited as long as you are not playing from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Assam, Orissa, Nagaland, Sikkim and Meghalaya. In these states the Gaming Laws are unclear. We hope in near future the laws in these states offer better clarity for us to extend our services there.
